"Physical damage at the fire scene that was once considered an absolute indicator of an incendiary fire is now subject to other interpretations. There are new techniques that should be used at the fire scene." ~remarks from presentation by Brendan O'Leary (SFFD) and Jim Flanigan (ATF), July 2000 California Conference of Arson Investigators
The area of fire investigation requires education and training throughout an investigator's career. As the field advances, it becomes vital for the fire investigation professional to stay informed of legal issues, legislative changes, investigative techniques, and general resources. The Tennessee Chapter of the International Association of Arson Investigators assists its members and fire investigation professionals around the southeast United States in staying connected and knowledgeable about the latest changes through the Annual Training Conference. In addition, there are numerous resources through IAAI including CFITrainer.net that allow the investigator to complete online training on a variety of topics. |
