Operating at a fire scene presents many hazards and safety concerns for the fire investigator.  Personal health and safety are often overlooked or taken for granted in the search for an origin and cause. 

However, the investigator must be knowledgeable and take proper precautions to avoid not only injury but long-term health effects from repeated exposure to debris and by-products found at a fire scene.
